Outdoor Art Gallery. Downtown Kingston is the heart of Jamaica's capital city, located on the southeastern coast of the island. This busy area of Kingston has a reputation for crime, poverty and run down businesses but like all areas in Jamaica, there are always hidden treasures. Today we are going to tour the Kingston Creative Art Walk outdoor art gallery. In the past few years, many people and organizations have come together to bring back this area to life and revitalize the reputation. Several modern upscale businesses have opened along the waterfront such as the ROK hotel which boasts two excellent restaurants and a roof top pool. Downtown Kingston now offers a variety of dining options, ranging from casual street vendors to upscale restaurants. Along the waterfront you will also find Gloria’s Seafood City and Ocean 7 Bar and Grill as well as other food and drink options. Several events are also kept along the waterfront including concerts and festivals. This area is now a vibrant hub of activity where locals and tourists alike come to shop, dine, and explore. The area is known for its colorful markets, lively music scene, and historic landmarks. The National Gallery has been a long time resident of the area and is the largest public art museum in the English Speaking Caribbean. The Kingston Craft Market is in walking distance from the Rok hotel and is full of vendors with souvenirs for tourists. The area is especially known for its seafood, with fresh catches of the day served up at many local eateries. Downtown Kingston is a vibrant and exciting destination that should be on every traveler's itinerary when visiting Kingston, Jamaica. One of the most popular attractions in Downtown Kingston is Kingston Creative Art Walk. For one hour, stroll through the vibrant outdoor art gallery on Water Lane and it’s adjoining lanes. Each piece tells it’s own story of the history of Jamaica, Jamaican culture and of Jamaicans who are icons from the past and present. It’s a free space open to the public, however taking the tour through Kingston Creative gives you the information about the work. The tour is affordable and offers special rates for Jamaican residents. This can be booked online in advance(see below for more information). This cobble stone pathway line the main Water Lane rd and make the perfect backdrop for photoshoots. Guided tours are available daily, however the last Sunday of every month, Kingston Creative hosts an open air street festival with dancers, musicians, visual artists and food. Each month has a different theme which is published ahead of time on their Instagram page.
